SAVKAT is seeking Solar Design Engineer to handle designing PV systems for residential solar installations across New England.
POSITION: Solar Design Engineer
The primary responsibility of a Solar Design Engineer is to review the site survey information and produce a complete permit design package (PDP). A complete PDP includes a verified/approved array layout, an attachment plan, and an interconnection design. The secondary responsibility of a Solar Design Engineer is to provide general engineering/design support to the sales and operations teams.
Our Solar Design Engineer will troubleshoot and resolve problems with plan sets, catching issues at the engineering stage and resolving issues that arise later in the process. The person in this role will also serve as a go-to technical resource for the rest of the company.
Responsibilities
- Design residential PV solar systems according to local requirements
- Use CAD software to produce a 3D model of the house (using measurements from the site survey) and design the array layout
- Select attachment method based on roof and framing configuration
- Work with third-party structural engineers to obtain a structural certification for each project
- Determine and design the interconnection method based on existing electrical systems
- Work with the sales team to produce an array layout that is feasible
- Work with the operations team to ensure an efficient install
Key Duties
- Advise other departments on technical aspects of solar installation
- Apply local jurisdictions’ electrical and building code requirements to your plan sets.
- Create layout mockups and drawings for project proposals as requested.
- Collaborate with sales consultants, site inspectors, and project managers to develop the right system for each client.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience designing residential PV solar systems required
- Drafting/engineering experience required
- AutoCAD knowledge/experience required
- Electrical design and engineering experience
- Familiarity with solar array setbacks
- Engineering or related bachelor’s degree preferred
- Understanding of construction, mechanical design, electrical design
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and switch contexts
- Deadline and detail-oriented
